Program Schedule
WEEK 1: Set Up Your Home Studio
Bring to Class: Smartphone, voice over mic, and laptop (if possible).
Learn to set up a professional in-home recording system, including equipment recommendations and audio editing tools. Gain insights into Source Connect, ISDN lines, Skype, Zoom, and other ways to connect with clients remotely. Explore five key tips for soundproofing your home studio and strategies to establish yourself as a globally recognized voice over artist.
WEEK 2 & 3: Animation
Bring to Class: Smartphone, voice over mic, and laptop (if possible).
Record animation demos showcasing a range of voices, from cartoon characters to popular TV personalities. Develop your own scripts to better understand character tone, story beats, and emotions. Learn how to “go deep” into a character’s mindset, explain emotional context, and include “incidentals” like laughs, grunts, and breaths to add depth.
GOAL: Create a 1–2 minute Animation Demo.
WEEK 4 & 5: Audiobooks
Bring to Class: Notepad and/or laptop for notes.
Master the 10 essential audiobook narration skills: articulation, breathing, delivery, eye-brain-mouth coordination, consistency, analysis, characterization, separation, stigma removal, and painting a vivid picture vocally. Connect emotionally to the narration for a compelling delivery.
GOAL: Create a 1-minute Audiobook Demo.
WEEK 6: Video Games / Interactive Media
Bring to Class: Notepad and/or laptop for notes.
Discover how body language impacts voice acting for video games and interactive media. Learn to match physical movements (like jumping, running, or sounding out of breath) with vocal expression. Watch examples of voice actors in action and practice using physicality to enhance your performance.
GOAL: Create a 1-minute Video Game or Interactive Demo.
WEEK 7: Movie Trailer / Announcer / Jingles Demos
Work with your coach to determine whether a movie trailer, announcer, or jingle demo suits your voice best. Hone your delivery for cinematic trailers, dynamic announcer reads, or singing for jingles.
GOAL: Create a Movie Trailer, Announcer, or Jingles Demo.
WEEK 8: Casting Networks & VO Rates
Learn how to navigate casting networks and talent agencies. Understand VO industry rates, invoicing, contracts, and vouchers. Review and finalize all demos, including MP3 files and SoundCloud links, and optimize your social media platforms for marketing your VO work.
GOAL: Finalize all demos and prepare for client submissions.
